The Kindergarten team will work with students and their families to support students’ success in ELA, reading & math. Some ways we can meet our goals and create key connections with families will be:

• Homework for Practice and Progress: We will send home regular reading and math homework to reinforce what your child is learning in class. These assignments help build skills and confidence with your
  support at home.
• Reading Together at Home: Your child will bring home library books each week. We encourage you to read with them, talk about the story, and ask questions to build understanding and a love for reading.
• Open Communication: We value strong partnerships with families!
• You can expect regular updates through: The Rocket Folder (daily/weekly communication),
  newsletters with class news and tips,
  parent-teacher conferences to discuss progress, the Dojo app for quick messages and reminders
• Engaging and Meaningful Learning:
  In the classroom, your child will take part in lessons and activities that are both challenging and fun. We aim to
  create a supportive environment where every student
  feels encouraged to do their best and grow.

Westside Elementary parents joined staff to develop ideas about how families can support students’ success in reading and math. Kindergarten parents suggested the following ideas:

• Make School Attendance a Priority
  Help your child succeed by making sure they arrive at school
  on time every day, ready to learn.
• Check Folders Nightly:
  Look over your child’s communication folder or notebook
  each evening. Talk with them about what they learned and
  review any notes or assignments.
• Encourage and Motivate:
  Show interest in your learning. Praise their efforts,
  celebrate their progress, and remind them that school is
  important.
• Read Together and Talk About Books:  Spend time reading the library books your child brings home.
  Ask questions like, “What happened in the story?” or “What was your favorite part?” to build comprehension.
• Help with Homework:
  Support your child by sitting with them as they complete
  homework. Offer guidance and encouragement without doing
  the work for them.
• Review Classwork and Skills
  Take time to go over completed classwork and skill practice.
  Reinforce what they’re learning by practicing key skills at
  home when possible.

The First-Grade team will work with students and their families to support students’ success in reading and math. Some ways we can meet our goals and
create key connections with families will be:

• High-Quality Learning for All: We are committed to ensuring the highest level of learning for every student. When additional support is needed, we provide targeted interventions to help all students succeed.
• Clear and Consistent Communication We’ll keep you informed of your child’s academic progress and social-emotional growth through frequent updates via the Rocket Folder, the Remind app, and scheduled conferences.
• Engaging and Effective Lessons Our classroom lessons are designed to spark curiosity, challenge students, and promote deep understanding.
• Collaboration for Student Growth We work together as a team of educators—sharing ideas, strategies, and resources—to provide the best possible education for your child.

• Meeting Individual Needs We differentiate instruction to support all learning styles, ensuring each child can learn at their own pace and in their own way

Westside Elementary parents joined staff to develop ideas about how families can support students’ success in reading and math. First grade parents suggested the following ideas:

• Support Homework Completion: Help my child complete their homework each night by providing time, space, and encouragement.
• Read Together Daily Read with my child every day and sign their reading log to build strong reading habits and a love of books.
• Reinforce Positive Behavior: Support the teacher’s efforts to maintain respectful behavior in the classroom by discussing expectations and consequences with my child.
• Attend Conferences Participate in at least two parent-teacher conferences each year to stay informed about my child’s academic and social-emotional progress.
• Maintain Open Communication: Keep in touch with my teacher through folders, notes, Remind, or email, and respond promptly to school communications.
• Prepare My Child for Each Day: Make sure my child gets enough sleep, eats a healthy breakfast, and arrives at school on time—unless they are sick.
• Make Learning Part of Everyday Life. Incorporate reading and math into everyday routines by playing educational games, reading signs, measuring while cooking, and talking about numbers and stories.

The Second-Grade team will work with students and their families to support students’ success in reading and math. Some ways we can meet our goals and create key connections with families will be:

• Reading Ready! Our goal is for every student to read and understand at grade level by the end of the year.
• Math Fun! We’ll build number sense and learn to add and subtract 2-digit numbers with confidence.
• Monthly Updates! Our newsletter and planner will keep you in the loop on what we're learning each month. Safe & Supportive! We’re committed to a safe, welcoming space where all students can thrive.
• Let’s Stay in Touch! We’ll keep communication open so you always know what’s going on.
• Engaging Lessons! We’ll plan fun and exciting activities that meet the needs of all our learners.

• Use Learning Tools at Home: Explore math and reading together using books, websites, or home computers.
• Read Together Spend time reading books with your child—it builds skills and creates great memories!
• Stay Connected: Attend at least 2 parent-teacher conferences to stay informed and support your child’s growth.

The Third-Grade team will work with students and their families to support students’ success in reading and math. Some ways we can meet our goals and create key connections with families will be:

• Each week, we’ll send home a newsletter with our learning targets and an optional review sheet to help support learning at home.
• Open Communication We encourage open and honest communication between parents and teachers—we’re a team!
• Remind App Updates We’ll use the 3rd Grade Remind App to share quick messages, reminders, and updates throughout the week.

• Review Weekly Assessments: Look over your child’s weekly tests or quizzes together to celebrate successes and talk about how to improve.
• Use Flash Cards: Practice math facts or vocabulary with flash cards to help build confidence and memory.
• Read Together & Ask Questions: Take turns reading and ask "why" or "how" questions to help your child think deeper about the story.
• Talk About Rocket P.R.I.D.E. Discuss how your child can show Positivity, Respect, Integrity, Determination, and Excellence at school and at home.
• Check the Rocket Folder: Go through your child’s folder daily for notes, homework, and important papers.
• Play Learning Games: Use fun games to help with math facts, spelling, or vocabulary—it makes learning exciting!
• Make Sure Your Child Is Rested: A good night’s sleep helps your child stay focused, happy, and ready to learn.

The Fourth-Grade team will work with students and their families to support students’ success in reading and math. Some ways we can meet our goals and create key connections with families will be:

• Communicate ways to help with work at home
• Provide feedback on graded work
• Provide Newsletters
• Keep grade-book up to date
• Communicate with parents if their child is struggling
• Regular communication through Dojo

Cohutta Elementary parents joined staff to develop ideas about how families can support students’ success in reading and math. Fourth grade parents suggested the following ideas:

• Help with “Must-do’s” that do not get completed at school
• Read with my child
• Learn multiplication facts through 12
• Check Infinite Campus/Parent Portal weekly
• Check Dojo & Red folders nightly
• Be prepared with school supplies

The Fifth-Grade team will work with students and their families to support students’ success in reading and math. Some ways we can meet our goals and create key connections with families will be:

• Differentiate reading & math skills as needed to meet student needs
• Keep Infinite Campus updated
• Utilize spiral review throughout the year
• Provide timely feedback to students & parents

Cohutta Elementary parents joined staff to develop ideas about how families can support students’ success in reading and math. Fifth grade parents suggested the following ideas:

• Check folders
• Sign agendas
• Make sure child turns in correct & completed work
• Use Dojo for communication
• Check Infinite Campus
• Make sure student is prepared & on time for school
• Prioritize attendance
